Rule

Use the present simple for habits, facts, routines and repeated actions.

Examples

I live in London. She studies every evening. The test starts at 9 am.

Common mistake

Do not use the present continuous for permanent facts: say “I live near the centre”, not “I am living near the centre” unless it is temporary.

Quick practice

  1. Write three true sentences about yourself.
  2. Turn one sentence into a question.
  3. Give one answer aloud using the same tense.
